AWARDS AND THE INVENTIONS AND CONTRIBUTIONS BOARD (ICB)
- The NASA Inventions and Contributions Board (ICB) was established with the Space Act of 1958.
- The ICB rewards NASA employees and contractors with recognition for significant contributions in science and technology to aeronautics and space activities.
- The Board makes recommendations to the Administrator for these awards, not to exceed $100,000 without congressional consent.
- Each year, the ICB awards about 3,000 individuals with cash and peer recognition.
MONETARY INCENTIVES: AWARDS
- Patent Application Awards
- $1000/single contributor, $500/multiple (max of 10 people on award).
- Software Award
- $1000/single contributor, $500/multiple (max of 10 people on award).
- Tech Brief Award
- $350 each contributor (max. of 14 people on award).
- Articles must have been accepted for publication in NASA Tech Briefs.
- These awards are “automatic” and do not require a written “application.”
- Board Action Awards
- Must have a NASA Form 1320 write up.
- No maximum number of contributors.
- Monetary amount is assigned by the ICB at its quarterly meeting.
- Maximum for a technology is $100,000 (total of all awards).
